A new show of photographs by Mark Svendsen opened Saturday 27 April at the YAA Gallery in Nye Beach. Svendsen, a part-year Newport resident, has won numerous awards for his landscape and wildlife photography in Northwest regional competitions, and has a concurrent show of portraits taken in Afghanistan in the 1970s on display in the Newport Performing Arts Center.  He has been taking pictures his entire adult life, but credits membership in the Newport-based Yaquina Arts Association Photographers (YAAP) photo club with sharply expanding and deepening his store of photographic and creative skills.

In addition to coastal depictions, the show will feature images of wildlife from the Everglades and Yellowstone ecosystems. It highlights images of three Native American dancers from the 2023 Siletz Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow.

The beachfront YAA Gallery is located at the end of NW Beach drive in the historic Nye Beach section of Newport and is open daily from 11 to 4. The show will run through 10 May.
