The 2026-2027 MEID season kicks off this month. YAAP invites its members to submit their images for the upcoming monthly EID competition.
Submission Deadline is Tuesday September 15 at midnight. Judging for competitive images will be conducted prior to the YAAP meeting.
Members may submit one (1) Traditional image, and one (1) Monochrome or Altered Reality image. You need not submit a Traditional image, but only one Mono or AR is allowed. Image formatting and submission requirements can be found here or further down in this email.
If you desire, you may also submit one or two non-scored images to receive comments/feedback to improve your image. You may remain anonymous for this if you wish. Just state that when you submit please.
All images for this competition will be scored by our panel of trained judges, scoring using the criteria set by our club.
For September’s competition we will continue the meeting protocol we began in the spring: during the meeting I will bring up each image for members to view without comment for about 10 seconds, then our EID chair will announce the image name and total score of the 3 judges rather than the score of each judge. No judges’ comments will be given at this time.
Next the top scoring six (6) Traditional and four (4) combined Mono/AR images will be selected to move on to 4Cs judging. Those images will be announced and receive comments & advice.
Following that, for judged but non-selected images, image makers may ask for comments & advice. I will ask for those requests in real time or you may submit a request to me ahead of time. After that non-scored images will be reviewed.
Please submit your EID image(s) or non-scored images by midnight Tuesday, September 15, to yaapeid@gmail.com. Please do not send them to my personal email, since I track the submissions received only through the YAAP EID email.
Also, please double check that your image size and naming are correct, and without watermarks before submitting. This is much appreciated!

Competition Guidelines
YAAP members may submit up to two (2) images total. If one image is submitted, it may be of any type. If two images are submitted, one of them must be a Traditional type, but no more than one Traditional may be entered. The second image may be either Monochrome or Altered Reality. It is the members responsibility to specify the image type. Watermarks are NOT allowed. Details for submission are listed below.
Non-Scored Images
If you wish to enter images for comment only, but not for competition, state this when you submit by marking with an N at the end of the image name. These are due the same day as the MEID images.

Monthly EID Entry Background
Monthly club Electronic Image Division (EID) competitions are held by YAAP from September through April. The club EID Chair sends the top six Traditional images and the top four combined Monochrome and/or Altered Reality images to 4C’s Monthly EID Chairs for regional judging, held from October through May. Competitions are conducted in accordance with the process and restrictions provided in the 4C’s “Gold Book” (January 2024 edition) at https://bit.ly/3gaPscn.
Image Type and Designation
There are three image types:
Traditional, designated by the letter T, which will encompass the majority of photographs.
Monochrome, designated by the letter M, which includes black and white and monochrome toned photographs (for example, sepia).
Altered Reality, designated by the letter A, which depicts photographic subjects in a substantial departure from realism. For guidance on this type, refer to pages 34-35 of the 4Cs “Gold Book” at https://bit.ly/3gaPscn (January 2024). If you’re unfamiliar with this unique category, please read the Gold Book.
Submission Email Address
Submit images to the EID Chair at yaapeid@gmail.com. Attachments are preferred. I will reply when I receive. If there are errors in sizing or naming I’ll let you know to correct and re-send.
File Format
Images must be in JPEG (jpg) format.
Visible signatures or watermarks are prohibited (images with them will be disqualified).
Format must be in the sRGB color space. (Avoid using the Prophoto RGB, which projects with vastly distorted color tones, according to a 4Cs EID chair.)
File Size
All of the following size requirements must be met:
- Horizontal dimension maximum: 1920 pixels*
- Vertical dimension maximum: 1080 pixels*
* including any borders and keylines.
Be sure to check both dimensions. The usual error is exceeding the vertical limit of 1080 pixels.
File Name
Images must be labeled using the following format:
- FirstnameLastname_YAAP_TitleName_ImageType.jpg
- or Firstname Lastname_YAAP_Title Name_ImageType.jpg
where the image type is denoted by a single capital letter: T for traditional, M for Monochrome, A for Altered Reality, N for non-competition. DO NOT ADD extra underscores please.
- Blanks are permitted in the maker’s name and image title. No other characters are permitted. That means no apostrophes, exclamation points, question marks or commas. Just blanks.
- Examples of properly formatted file names:

Use underscores ONLY to separate your name, the club’s initials, the image name, and the image type. Please do not add additional underscores. 😉 The file format must be carefully adhered to since images sent to the 4Cs (as well as to your club chair) are processed in part by a program that reads the file name.
